Just For One Day, the musical inspired by the legendary Live Aid of 1985, arrives at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London. After a successful world tour, the show arrives in the West End with the strength of a narrative that intertwines collective memory and contemporary reflection. Written by John O’Farrell and directed by Luke Sheppard, the musical does not limit itself to recalling the performances by Queen, David Bowie, U2 and other giants of music, but offers an original dramaturgy that entrusts the story to fictional characters, capable of authentically conveying the emotional and political impact of that unique event. The strength of the show lies in the extraordinary soundtrack: over 30 iconic songs rearranged for the theatre, which avoid philological replication to aim for a lively emotion, capable of dialoguing with the present. The experience is not only sound but visual, with a direction that alternates intimate moments with choral sequences, recreating the electric atmosphere of Wembley but without sacrificing depth. Just For One Day is not only a tribute to the past, but a reflection on what music can still represent today: a collective gesture, a concrete hope, a push for change. A musical that excites and makes you think, without rhetoric and without nostalgia.
