Images studied in the most minute detail, so realistic that they are disturbing and alienating - such are the canvases of Felice Casorati, Giorgio de Chirico, Carlo Carrà and Gino Severini for an original exhibition that is an all-Italian “return to order”. From this concept of “return” comes a general restitution of the sculptural values of the art of the past, from Giotto to Piero della Francesca, the formula of which, as realistic as it is magical, returns in the paintings of Antonio Donghi, Ubaldo Oppi, Achille Funi, Edita Broglio and Cagnaccio di San Pietro, especially in his celebrated masterpiece Dopo l’Orgia. From 19 October to 27 February, this gathering of artists, the fervent brushstrokes of Magic Realism, crosses with the destinies of “Novecento”, the Milanese group created by Margherita Sarfatti, but, above all, drawing upon the experiences of German and Austrian colleagues. An exhibition that offers visitors a look at over eighty masterpieces of this complex and fascinating artistic movement, which saw its creative apex between 1920 and 1935.
From Tiepolo to Canaletto, the Drawing of the 1700s Shines at the Castello Sforzesco
One of the most important Italian collections of graphics is on display at the ancient Ospedale Spagnolo. Just like a narrative in instalments, inspired by the fantastical visions of the Venetian masters.
