The portrait sculptures of Miguel Ángel Payano Jr.
#Exhibitions

No one can afford to consciously challenge cultural preconceptions better than Miguel Ángel Payano Jr.. Visual artist of Afro-Caribbean origins, born in New York and resident in Beijing for some years, he has recently worked on portraits that blend painting and sculpture. His artistic language, unique and original, is based on "heavy collages", where sculptural elements and ready-made objects populate and protrude from canvases that skillfully portray individuals and landscapes. In recent years he has expanded his material lexicon and refined his painting technique, in works full of linguistic cues, social commentary and visual shifts. The vibrant yet tightly controlled images of him are full of meaning and trace the development and emergence of his singular vision and talent.
