Vera Molnár the pioneer

While the world is wondering what the role of artificial intelligence in art could be, the exhibition at the Center Pompidou in Paris invites the public to discover the genius of Vera Molnár, a pioneer of computer art and of generative art and one of first women to use computers in her artistic practice. Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1924 and passed away at the age of 99 in 2023, Vera Molnár was a true avant-garde artist in the field of digital art. Molnár developed a mode of production  that she called the "imaginary machine" before becoming the first artist in France (1968) to produce digital drawings using a computer connected to a plotter. The exhibition brings together a large collection of her works, from her constructivist beginnings in 1947 to continue with her series of algorithmic drawings from the 60s and 70s which anticipate the use of the computer. The exhibition continues with a long series of works that from the 1980s extends to 2023 with drawings, sculptures and photographs that testify to her constant research between art and mathematics, creativity and the use of machines as a creative tool capable of giving representation and shapes to the artist's sensitivity.
