Tuymans, the Image Explorer

Tuymans, the Image Explorer
#Exhibitions

In the 1990s, Luc Tuymans began to arouse interest in the circle of Chinese artists. His research on images and painting has always been aware of the role of art in shaping history and influencing memory. Drawing inspiration from Northern European Renaissance painting and the pop culture of his youth spent in Belgium, Tuymans chose to explore the power that images wield to shape the present and give shape to the past. Organized by Peter Eleey, general curator of UCCA, in close collaboration with the artist, the exhibition Luc Tuymans: The Past offers a significant survey of his work, presenting approximately 80 works created throughout the artist's career, including Chinese subjects who have been present in his work since the first exhibition in 1985.
