Art with immaterial boundaries, creativity that is expressed through technology, digital art has taken on various names over the years (computer art, electronic art, multimedia art, just to name the best known) and has undergone profound transformations following the extraordinary evolution which characterized the development of the media between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Patric D. Prince is an art historian who was among the first in the world to direct her studies and research to this artistic practice. Over the course of more than sixty years, Prince has built a vast archive that traces the rise of computer-generated arts and created one of the largest collections of digital art in the world. In 2008 she donated her collection of over 260 works of art to the Victoria & Albert Museum. Today the London museum is preparing to present an important part of the Prince Collection to the public with 14 works that offer a snapshot of digital artistic practices from 1960 to the present day.
