Rome is a city of contradictions: layered and fragile, monumental yet everyday, suspended between an ever-present past and the challenges of the present. A new exhibition chooses to tell its story not as an isolated exception, but as part of a global network of constantly evolving metropolises. The project places Rome in dialogue with seventeen major cities around the world, comparing data, lifestyles, social dynamics and environmental conditions to explore what truly makes the Eternal City unique within the contemporary urban landscape. The exhibition weaves together numbers and visions, analysis and imagination. Alongside maps, documents and works of art, an original photographic project offers a fresh perspective on Rome. At the heart of the show, a large terracotta model of the city becomes a shared platform for reading and understanding its spatial, social and environmental relationships. Structured in three interconnected sections - global comparisons, Rome in the world’s imagination and the city’s underlying “DNA” - the exhibition invites visitors to move beyond clichés and see Rome as a living organism. Not just a city to admire, but an urban laboratory that continues to question and shape the future of global cities.
