The Owari Tokugawa was the most important of the three families that produced the Tokugawa shoguns. The many treasures they accumulated and passed down are now preserved in the Collection of the Tokugawa Art Museum. Among the pieces of great value are certainly the objects inherited from Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first Tokugawa shogun. Artifacts cherished by family heads and their spouses over generations, including swords, tea utensils, incense-appreciating utensils, and Noh costumes - these treasured objects tell the story of the Tokugawa and their sumptuous and elegant daimyo culture. The exhibition offers the extraordinary opportunity to appreciate the museum's most sublime masterpieces, including the National Treasures The Tale of Genji Illustrated Scrolls and the Hatsune Trousseau which were the wedding furnishings of Chiyo-hime (Princess Chiyo), the eldest daughter of the third Tokugawa shogun, Iemitsu.
