Through the corridors of the Meridian Gate, once crossed by emperors and dignitaries, today open the halls of an exhibition that tells the story of a century of transformation. Two hundred artifacts, arranged in three sections, weave together the thread of five thousand years of civilization with the museum’s own hundred-year journey. In Reuniting National Treasures, the deep roots of tradition emerge, from the preservation of imperial collections to the opening of the Forbidden City to the public. The section Revitalizing Ancient Masterpieces bears witness to the rebirth of masterpieces through restorations, acquisitions, and major architectural projects that have returned splendor to halls and pavilions. Finally, the third section looks to the future, showing how Chinese culture engages in dialogue with other civilizations and how heritage becomes a shared resource for humanity. The exhibition unfolds as a journey through time: from the migration of treasures safeguarded during wartime to modern campaigns of cataloging and digitization. Each artifact becomes a sign of resilience and continuity, a fragment that unites memory and innovation. Along this path, the Palace Museum emerges not only as a custodian of the past but also as a living laboratory where cultural heritage is renewed and speaks to the contemporary world.
