When the Hotel Becomes an Artistic Investigation

Can you play with tourism in a city, Dubai, which makes tourism one of its strengths and attractions? This is the theme of the Guest Relations exhibition which examines the historical, political, social and cultural transformations that accompany the processes of intense touristification by bringing together works by artists, archival and architectural research from all over the South of the world. And so at the Jameel Arts Centre it takes a look at the transactional nature of modern hospitality and it puts hotels in the spotlight.. In fact, hotels are the place of artistic investigation of this exhibition and tracing their origins in colonial grandeur and hubris to their current, often generic, ubiquity in the age of globalization.
