Two overturned chairs, held in balance by slowly melting blocks of ice. It’s an image of fragile equilibrium and natural tension - a scene that sets the tone for Liao Fei’s visual and conceptual journey. The Chinese artist returns with an exhibition that, for the first time, brings together two decades of research, spanning from sculptural minimalism to his most recent geometric installations. Through sculptures, videos, and perceptual devices, Liao investigates the physical laws of the world to reflect on existential ones. Emptiness, infinity, and the relationship between the tangible and the intuitive are central to a practice that weaves together scientific rigor, Buddhist philosophy, and visual language. Works like Move No.1 and One Way Sculpture turn everyday objects into perceptual experiments. His latest series, including Chiral Extent and Partially Obscured Circles, mark a return to figurative sculpture and explore geometric structures and hidden symmetries.
