Telling Yoko Ono, telling the artist, the musician, the political activist, the public figure is not easy. Today at 90 years old (Yoko Ono was born in Tokyo in 1933) and with a 60-year career behind her, the Tate Modern is trying to narrate her historical and artistic profile in a major exhibition that will take shape in the London museum starting from February 2024 . Developing her artistic practice in America, Japan and the UK, she is renowned for her activism, her work for world peace and environmental campaigns. Her ideas are central to her art, often expressed in poetic, humorous and radical ways. The exhibition focuses on key moments in Ono's artistic life, from her involvement in the avant-garde Fluxus movement, to her arrival in London in 1966 where she met her future husband and life partner, the legendary John Lennon, one of four boys of Liverpool who gave birth to the most famous pop band of all time the Beatles. And then her best known and debated works of art and performances - from the 1964 Cut Piece in which spectators literally sliced her clothes, to the highly forbidden and pacifist Film No.4 with its anthology of "B-sides" which scandalized many right-thinking people at the end of the 60s, up to her famous projects of artistic and political activism Peace Is Power (in favor of peace) and Wish Tree (with an environmental theme). An extraordinary personality and a great artist who will be fun to see again in London after a long time.
