The world of Wallace & Gromit arrives at the Young V&A in London with an exhibition that opens up the creative workshop of one of the most recognisable animation studios in the world. Founded in Bristol in the 1970s, Aardman has built a distinctive imaginary shaped by plasticine, stop motion and British humour, bringing to life characters that have entered popular culture such as Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and the protagonists of Chicken Run. The exhibition places the process at its centre, rather than the finished result. Original models, puppets, sets, storyboards and production materials reveal how the studio’s films and series are made, highlighting the craftsmanship that underpins every seemingly simple gesture of the characters. The show emphasises the manual skill, time and precision required by stop motion, revealing a constant balance between visual invention and technical discipline. Designed for a broad audience, Inside Aardman naturally aligns with the mission of the Young V&A, a museum dedicated to creativity, design and childhood. The irony and lightness of the characters coexist with a wider reflection on animation as an art form and as a narrative language capable of crossing generations without losing complexity.
