Over the past ten years, Hans Op de Beeck has established himself as one of the most exciting young artists on the international art scene. His work covers an astonishing spectrum ranging from installation art and sculpture to video, photography and drawing. Vanishing is a playful reflection on the instant in which we, as human beings, become nothing or nobody, when we let go of our linguistic, logical and rational understanding of the world, and slip for a moment into the loss of self. These are the moments when we forget who we are, as our alert sense of time and any sense of urgency seem to disappear. The artist does not intend to illustrate a particular theory or point of view, but rather to introduce the beginning of an unknown state of mind, a minor action or the seed of a possible new story.
