The Museum of Modern Art in Paris, through a selection of over 200 artworks, most of which have never been exhibited in France, with the exhibition Présences Arabes – Modern Art and Decolonization – Paris 1908-1988 highlights the relationship of Arab artists with Paris during the twentieth century. An exhibition that aims to rediscover, with the works of over 130 artists, the diversity of Arab modernity and to renew the historical perspective on artistic scenes still little known in Europe. Structured chronologically, the exhibition begins in 1908, the year of the arrival of the Lebanese poet and artist Khalil Gibran in Paris and the opening of the School of Fine Arts in Cairo. The journey ends in 1988, with the first exhibition dedicated to contemporary Arab artists at the Institut du Monde Arabe. An 80-year journey that promises to reveal the liveliness of an artistic panorama yet to be discovered.
