Peiyu Cao presents a new installation inspired by Shuji Terayama’s poem The Day the Sea Disappeared, in which the oceans suddenly vanish and all memory of their existence is erased. The exhibition addresses the theme of the fragmentation of contemporary reality, marked by the continuous redefinition and repurposing of objects and concepts. In a context where language increasingly loses its anchoring, everyday experience also disintegrates, hidden beneath layers of abstraction. Cao explores these dynamics through sculptures made of wax, a material whose fluidity and transformative nature symbolize the precariousness of daily constructions. A central element of the installation is a staircase, conceived not merely as an architectural structure but as a metaphor for a transitional space between order and instability. Within this suspended environment, Cao opens up a space of resistance where the undefined and the unsaid can emerge, offering a reflection on a provisional truth, rooted in the body and in time.
