Over 100 years ago, the V&A received a gift of over 80.000 playbills, programmes and ephemera from collector Gabrielle Enthoven. The gift marked the beginning of the museum’s collection of theatre material, which has since evolved into the National Collection of Performing Arts. Through a selection of objects ranging from Enthoven’s early theatre material to the V&A’s most recent acquisitions, this exhibition presents a history of performance collecting and celebrates the extraordinary life and career of this British collector. The works on display include iconic objects such as the famous Rolling Stones logo designed by graphic designer John Pasche, the glasses Elton John wore during his world tours in 1981, and an 1848 painting of the actor Ira Aldridge as Othello.
