The universe of ceramics in Bali and Indonesia

Founded in 2011 to showcase, preserve and encourage the traditional production of ceramics in Bali, the Tanteri Museum of Ceramic Art is one of the destinations not to be missed to appreciate Balinese culture and art. The museum includes ancient and modern artefacts in its collection, coming not only from Bali, but also from various regions of Indonesia. Most of the collections are examples of the production of the village of Pejaten, known for traditional style and intricate design. Decorations with complex motifs, often depicting mythological scenes, animals, flowers and geometric shapes, traditional colors including blue, brown and green are the distinctive features of the village's ceramics, characteristics so fundamental for cultural identification that they push the then village chief, I Made Tanteri to found the museum. Thanks to his commitment, Tanteri was awarded the Upakarti Prize in 1986 by the President of the Republic of Indonesia. Since then, countless advances and experiments have brought new stimuli to the development of ceramics, a history of beauty all visible in the museum.
