Blurred portraits and partial compositions, bodies in shadow and an infinite universe of characters - that’s how Gabriel Novis, Brazilian director and photography director uses photographic images to narrate his life of travel, open to adventure and encounters. Finalist of Young Guns, Novis directed surf icon and olympic gold medalist Ítalo Ferreira, obtaining success and critical acclaim. Born in Los Angeles, Novis obtained a degree in marketing in Brazil, specialising in photography direction at UCLA and film directing at the New York Film Academy in Burbank (LA). He is known for his flexibility and his highly dynamic style which perfectly fits the spirit of the Island of Bali. His photographic projects reflect a cinematographic approach, giving life to scenes of high emotional impact, capturing moments and movements, transmitting emotions and thoughts, often in elegant black and white.
When Michael White, then a young architecture student from Sydney, set sail for Bali in 1973, he was so impressed by the island that he decided never to go back. Made Wijaya, this is the name he gave himself after his conversion to Hinduism, mapped the historic buildings and tropical gardens of Bali, leaving a photographic heritage of great value.
On the hills of Bali, Ubud stands on the edge of the tropical forest and terraced rice fields dotted with Hindu temples and shrines, among the most famous on the island.
