Adrian Piper summarizes various aspects in herself: woman, philosopher, artist. In her long career she has never backed down from uncomfortable issues on politics, racial and gender identity, and she has faced them with courage. Towards the end of the Sixties she established herself on the New York scene for her research in the conceptual and minimalist field and for her performances. Today the PAC - Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea in Milan presents the first European retrospective dedicated to the artist, after over twenty years. On display is a selection of works focused on the analysis of the "visual pathology" of racism: through installations, videos, photographs, paintings and drawings Piper carries out research on the image of African-American people determined by society and the many widespread stereotypes. The core of her philosophical, artistic and activist practice is the concept of permanent struggle against racism, xenophobia, social injustice and hatred.
