More than an isolated monument the Taman Pujaan Bangsa Margarana, better known as Margarana, is a national site, a nine -hectare park built to commemorate one of the most tragic events of the conflict between the Balinese and the Dutch. On November 20, 1946, in Banjar Kelaci, Marga's village, there was a battle between the fighters of the Indonesian Republic under the guidance of the colonel I Gusti Ngurah Rai and the Dutch colonialists. The clash led to the death of the Balinese colonel, greeted now as a national hero, and his soldiers. It is interesting what to discover by walking along the avenues of the area dedicated to this event. The park is divided into three parts following the Tri Mandala and includes the succession of sacred buildings such as the 17 meters high Temple of the Heroes, the Garden where 1372 tombstone are placed for the fallen in the revolt against the invaders and a historic building where are kept different objects that tell of the struggle for independence. In the area to the South and downstream there are the Nature and Scout Work Park and the Cultural Arts Park, with a small cafeteria where you can have a break.
