An exhibition that serves as a poetic and visual tribute to the work of renowned French filmmaker and photographer Agnès Varda, offering a fresh perspective on her photographic production and the deep connection that ran throughout her artistic career with the city of Paris. The show features more than 130 photographs, many of them previously unseen, documenting Varda’s early steps as a photographer. Special attention is given to her iconic courtyard-studio on Rue Daguerre, in the 14th Arrondissement, where she lived and worked from 1951 to 2019. This space was not only her home, but also a photo studio, a development lab, and an exhibition venue. In the 1960s, it became a gathering place for artists and filmmakers, including her husband Jacques Demy. The exhibition also explores the relationship between photography and cinema in Varda’s work, presenting excerpts from films shot in Paris such as Cléo from 5 to 7 (1962) and Daguerréotypes (1975). These works reveal her distinctive gaze on the city, blending documentary and fiction with irony and sensitivity. The exhibition is enriched by additional materials, including personal objects, posters, documents, and a sculpture of her beloved cat Nini - elements that help shape an intimate portrait of the artist and highlight her ability to turn everyday life into art.
