The shapes and geometries of nature

The shapes and geometries of nature

Musée de l'Orangerie opens its doors to Wolfgang Laib, a German artist who divides his life between South India, Germany and New York. Laib approached art after studying medicine at the University of Tübingen and dedicating himself mainly to sculpture. Laib's art is deeply intertwined with nature which becomes an element around which he creates his works. Sculptures and installations that seem to connect past and present, the ephemeral and the eternal. Laib uses simple yet highly symbolic organic materials, usually associated with life itself, in his creative practice. Pollen, milk, rice and beeswax are the "bricks" with which he manages to give shape to his sculptures and where the geometric element is the result of a work of true discovery of nature that the artist collects, sifts, manipulates. This exhibition brings together artworks created specifically by Laib for the very peculiar architecture of the Parisian museum. Sculptures that enter into dialogue with the extraordinary and powerful beauty of Claude Monet's Water Lilies which are one of the most precious masterpieces kept in the museum.
