In Tian’s first solo exhibition at PIFO Gallery showcases over twenty works created in recent years. Trained in Nanjing, he devoted his studies to the foundations of traditional Chinese art, mastering classical techniques and teachings that continue to inform his painterly practice today. His tenure as a lecturer at the very university from which he graduated in 1987 deepened his intimate engagement with painting’s history, bringing the principles of “xieyi jingshen” - the spirit of lyrical abstraction - into his daily creative process. His canvases reveal fluid compositions where the unrestrained sweep of color and the calligraphic flow of line engage with Western formal structures, creating a dialogue between ancient elegance and contemporary sensibility. Through his leadership role in the Jiangsu Artists Association and collaborations with major institutions, Jin Tian has honed a vision that marries academic rigor with personal exploration. His works, held in national museums and private collections alike, stand as the culmination of a lifetime devoted to teaching, artistic practice, and the revitalization of China’s painting heritage.
