The body - in particular, that of the artist himself - is the protagonist of the latest personal exhibition of Zhang Peili, one of China’s most important artists, dedicated to teaching but also a pioneer of video art as well as active in the world of sculptural and installation art. The internal organs of the artist, even the amount of blood circulating in his body - elements generally hidden from view - are quite visible in this case. The most recent and innovative medical technologies have been used to transform data and information relative to the body of Zhang Peili in concrete form, using 3D printing methods. The results are sculptures of a realistic nature but also quite poetic, in agate, marble, resin and crystal. Distributed throughout the exhibition space, the works are full of emotion and of a powerful sense of the transitory, of the mortality that permeates all terrestrial things. Completing it all, the kinetic installation Collision Model 2 in which gas tanks collide against a silver skull, presumably a self-portrait of the artist himself.
