Wang Xingwei: New Works | Courtesy Galerie Urs Meile

Galerie Urs Meile presents the new solo exhibition by Wang Xingwei, one of the most original painters on the contemporary Chinese art scene. With his ironic and surreal style, Xingwei explores the paradoxes of society, blending high and popular cultural references into complex and layered visual narratives. At the heart of the exhibition is the triptych Chinese Soccer Fans (2024), a monumental work capturing the dramatic tension of group dynamics while offering a symbolic reflection on the concept of “Chinese masculinity.” Surrounding this piece are two paintings that explore the same theme in a more restrained tone: A Devoted Daughter-in-law, rendered in pointillist technique, delves into intergenerational relationships with warm tones and detached irony; Last-Generation “Male Syndrome of Imposed Abnormal Values”, with its dreamlike and symbolic language, merges self-portrait and memory in a poetic dialogue with the passing of time. An exhibition that reflects on identity, aging, and shifting values.
