Jean Jullien opens the doors to his inner world and invites the public to explore it as one would an enchanted castle - room by room, encounter by encounter. The exhibition, hosted at the Nanzuka Art Institute, marks the French artist’s debut in China and features over 80 works, including paintings, sculptures, installations, and objects, all created during his recent stay in Tokyo.
This is far more than a simple collection of artworks: it’s a visual and immersive narrative, inspired by childhood memories and a shared passion with his uncle for role-playing games, comic books, and imaginary realms. The visitor becomes the hero of a fantasy campaign, navigating spaces that evoke dungeons filled with strange creatures and unexpected adventures. In a time marked by global crises and uncertainty, Jullien offers imagination as a form of resistance. JUJU’s Castle becomes an alternative space where everyday life turns into a fairytale and reality takes on a sense of wonder. It’s a celebration of creative escapism that speaks to both children and adults - with lightness, but also depth.
