In September of 2021, Devy Ferdianto, master printer and artist with over thirty years of experience, decided to found the DEVFTO Printmaking Institute in Bali. It is a new centre intended to support the development of printing and Indonesian fine arts in general. Situated in the SIKA Gallery in Ubud, the studio, open to the public and art collectors, works in tight contact with artists in creating numbered reprints using ink on paper and other various techniques, such as cyano-typing, copper engraving, etching, silk-screening, mono-typing and lithography. A location which is also a gallery where the artists can also exhibit their works.
Man and nature in perfect balance: the subak system
The fertile soil and the particularly humid climate have made Bali one of the most suitable places for rice production. But what makes Balinese rice unique is the way it is grown: steep terraces fed by an irrigation system devised in the 9th century and known as subak.
