In 2025, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Mario Giacomelli, one of the most influential Italian photographers of the 20th century, two important retrospective exhibitions will be set up in Milan and Rome. From May to September 2025, Palazzo Reale in Milan will host the exhibition Mario Giacomelli 1925-2025. The Image and the Word. The exhibition will present over 300 original photographic works, including vintage and period prints, together with documents and archive materials. The exhibition will be organized into large chronological chapters, following the photographic series inspired by the readings of the great poets, underlining how Giacomelli's photography is a story structured with the language of the unconscious. Mario Giacomelli (1925 - 2000) is recognized for his innovative approach to photography, characterized by a strong black and white contrast and a poetic vision of reality. His works have influenced generations of photographers and continue to be the object of study and admiration at an international level. The exhibitions planned in Milan and Rome in 2025 will offer a unique opportunity to deepen the knowledge of his work and its impact on the world of photographic art.
