Between eternal ice and coral atolls, time seems to move at a different pace. On one side are landscapes shaped over millions of years; on the other, the fleeting span of a human life. It is within this vast contrast that Wang Qifeng's latest exhibition takes shape, inviting visitors to experience nature from a fresh perspective. The exhibition brings together two series created over the past three years, Antarctic Ice and Polynesian Coral Atolls, inspired by the frozen expanses of Antarctica and the coral islands of Polynesia. Rather than depicting landscapes realistically, Wang distils their essence: delicate colours, subtle tonal shifts and pared-back forms transform each canvas into a space for contemplation. His paintings reflect on the relationship between humanity and nature in the age of the Anthropocene and the constant flood of digital imagery, suggesting that painting can still offer a slower, deeper way of seeing the world. Born in China, Wang Qifeng has developed a practice rooted in direct encounters with nature, combining Eastern sensibility with a contemporary pictorial language in works that balance precision, spirituality and quiet contemplation.
