The Royal Horticultural Society presents a new edition of the Botanical Art and Photography Show, exploring the relationship between humans and the plant world through artworks and photographic portfolios from across the globe. The 2025 edition focuses in particular on plants that have played a vital role in the history of human cultures - whether for beauty, clothing, medicine or fuel. Among the most striking subjects are Japan’s cherry blossoms, Australia’s unusual “kangaroo paw” plants, and botanical species used in traditional Korean cosmetics. The photographic portfolios range from landscapes featuring Tuscan olive trees to the endemic vegetation of South Africa’s Cape Floral Kingdom, with a strong emphasis on biodiversity. All the works on display are selected by an expert panel and judged on the basis of aesthetic appeal, scientific accuracy and technical skill. Exhibitors compete for RHS medals - Gold, Silver-Gilt and Bronze - as well as special awards such as Best Botanical Artwork, Best Botanical Art Exhibit, Best Portfolio Photography Exhibit, Best Single Image and Judges Special Award. The public can vote for their favourite through the RHS website in the People’s Choice Award. This initiative continues the long-standing tradition of the Royal Horticultural Society, which holds over 30.000 botanical paintings and historical photographs in the RHS Lindley Library. The aim is to celebrate the beauty and complexity of the plant world, while encouraging scientific knowledge and artistic sensitivity.
