The Galleria d’Arte Moderna hosts Ugo Rondinone’s first solo exhibition in Milan, curated by Caroline Corbetta. The show is conceived in close dialogue with the museum’s spaces. Rondinone, born in Switzerland to parents from Basilicata and based in New York, weaves together personal memories and collective histories as a tribute to his Italian roots. An internationally acclaimed artist, he represented Switzerland at the 2007 Venice Biennale and is renowned for large-scale works such as Seven Magic Mountains, a permanent installation in the Nevada Desert. His creations, showcased in leading museums worldwide, blend autobiographical elements with existential reflections. At the GAM, Rondinone forges poetic connections with works from the collection, including Il Quarto Stato by Pellizza da Volpedo. The exhibition balances intimacy and universality, creating an emotional atmosphere where nostalgia and the drive for redemption intertwine.
