The legendary Mamluk Sultanate
Military slaves of Turkish and Caucasian origin, the Mamluks built their legend on their warrior might. From 1250 to 1517, the Mamluk Sultanate conquered the last strongholds of the Crusaders, fought and repelled the threat of the Mongols, survived the invasions of Tamerlane, and held at bay the threatening neighbors of the Turkmen and Ottomans.
