Brancusi's genius in Japan
#Exhibitions

The Romanian-born sculptor Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957) is known as a pioneering artist who, through his exploration of pure form, charted new territory in the sculpture that developed in Europe in the 20th century after Rodin. The exhibition makes Brancusi's sculptures the fulcrum of the narrative plot, through his two-dimensional works such as frescoes, tempera paintings, drawings and photographs, showing the totality of the creative activities of this Romanian artist who made Paris and France his land of choice since 1909 when his friends were Amedeo Modigliani, Fernand Léger, Henri Matisse, Marcel Duchamp and Henri Rousseau. This at the Artizon Museum is the first art museum exhibition in Japan to present Brancusi comprehensively. The ninety exhibitions include over twenty sculptures on loan from the Brancusi estate in Paris and from museums and other collections in Japan and abroad, as well as paintings and photographs.
