The Musée Guimet presents the exhibition Royal Bronzes of Angkor, an Art of the Divine, dedicated to Khmer bronze sculpture. The centerpiece of the exhibition is the statue of Reclining Vishnu from the Western Mebon, an 11th-century masterpiece discovered in 1936. After a major restoration in 2024, its fragments will be reunited for the first time. Alongside this Cambodian national treasure, over 200 works, including 126 loans from the National Museum of Cambodia, will offer a chronological journey through the art of bronze in Cambodia, from the 9th century to the present day. The exhibition explores Khmer heritage, evoking the ancient splendor of Angkor, the capital of the Khmer Empire, and the central role that sculptures in precious metals - gold, silver, gilded bronze - played in Buddhist and Brahmanic sanctuaries.
