In Spring 2025, the Musée d'Orsay will present a retrospective of the Norwegian painter Christian Krohg, an artist who is very popular in the Nordic countries but virtually unknown in France and the rest of Europe. Through an in-depth overview of his artistic career, the exhibition highlights his links with the political and social struggles of his time, revealing a humanist painter who seeks to awaken the viewer's conscience on moral and social issues such as poverty, famine, public hygiene and even the condition of women. The exhibition also recounts Krohg's relationship with the art of his time, particularly during his stays in Paris, and his search for immediacy that places his work in that thin liminal space at the dawn of modernity, with a style that has its roots in Naturalism and looks towards Impressionism.
