Amedeo Modigliani, Cariatide, About 1913-1914, Drawing (graphite, ink wash, pastel), Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris

This exhibition is the first to focus on an artistic friendship never told before, that which unites the sculptor Ossip Zadkine and the painter Amedeo Modigliani. Zadkine met Modigliani in 1913: the two artists, newly arrived in Paris, each dreamed of becoming sculptor and then shared the “lean times” as Zadkine wrote in his memories. Through nearly 90 works, paintings, drawings, sculptures but also documents and period photographs, the exhibition offers the opportunity to follow the life paths of Modigliani and Zadkine in Paris at the beginning of the twentieth century. The works on display come from major international institutions including the Centre Pompidou, the Musée de l'Orangerie, the museums of Milan, Rouen and Dijon, as well as from private lenders.
