Between 1985 and 2011, Milanese photographer Gabriele Basilico created numerous photographic campaigns in Rome. What interested him was research into the juxtaposition of opposites, the ancient and the contemporary in an uninterrupted dialogue. His photographic lens focused on the stratification of different eras and styles, highlighting the dialectic between historical monuments and the contemporary building fabric. The Capital is thus an ideal urban landscape where the imposing, shiny and reflective architecture of modernity coexist simultaneously with the temples, arches and ruins of ancient history within the same grandiose monumentality. To celebrate the eightieth anniversary of the birth of the Master of Italian photography, the exhibition set up in the evocative setting of Palazzo Altemps provides a glimpse of Gabriele Basilico's extraordinary research.
