Kyuyo Ishikawa, the Master of the Eroded Brush

In Japan Kyuyo Ishikawa is considered a master of the art of calligraphy. Professor emeritus at Kyoto Seika University, he has achieved great international fame for his numerous studies on the language and history of calligraphy. He has over 1.000 works and more than 100 published books to his credit. Kyuyo Ishikawa far surpassed the standards established in post-war avant-garde calligraphy, reinvigorating the relationship between the expression of words and the brush and creating magical and fascinating worlds in which his painted strokes become like music. His works range beyond the realm of calligraphy and are becoming increasingly popular in the field of contemporary art.
