The Museo Diocesano Carlo Maria Martini in Milan pays tribute to one of the leading figures in Italian photography with the first Milanese retrospective dedicated to Elio Ciol. The exhibition traces over seventy years of his career through a selection of 90 photographs - from iconic images to lesser-known works - that reveal the poetic and spiritual depth of his vision. From the rural landscapes of Friuli and Umbria to the plains of southern Milan, and through the lens of Neorealism and the film set of Gli ultimi by Father David Maria Turoldo, the show presents an artist who captures the tension between silence and mystery, anticipation and revelation. Landscapes, architecture, and portraits - including those of Pier Paolo Pasolini and William Congdon - emerge as fragments of an inner, contemplative reality, never overtly stated. In a world dominated by speed, Ciol invites us to slow down, to engage in a form of visual contemplation shaped by light, form, and memory. A visual journey into the spirituality of the everyday, seen through the lens of a true master of essentiality.
