A treasure to discover: Museum Seni Batuan
#BulgariStories

A history of occupation, a large influx of tourism and the awareness of the fragility of an open and welcoming culture towards external influences have developed on the island of Bali a strong desire to preserve local traditions. The population defends a unique heritage in the world which, thanks to various initiatives, continues to be appreciated and known throughout the world.
Among the uniqueness of the Island of the Gods is the Batuan style, a traditional pictorial style that developed in the village of the same name. Right here a museum, founded in 2012 with the aim of preserving this pictorial art, exhibits paintings by the best artists and the main families who pass down this style from generation to generation. About 400 works are on display in 3 different buildings, offering complex compositions, rich in figures and objects representing religious rituals, traditional Balinese dances, sacred ceremonies and mythological scenes, with a prevalence of black and white colours, typical of the Batuan style. In addition to the permanent exhibition space, visitors can also take advantage of temporary exhibition areas designed to motivate and offer new possibilities to young local artists.
