Tallulah Studio Art, in collaboration with Fabbrica Eos, is presenting the first solo exhibition in Milan by Phillip Toledano, the London-born, New York-based artist celebrated as one of the most original voices in contemporary photography. With Another America - also published as a book by L’Artiere in 2024 - Toledano challenges the traditional notion of photography as objective testimony, reimagining it through the lens of artificial intelligence. The works on display, echoing the aesthetics of 1940s and 1950s photojournalism, construct an alternative and surreal America: cigarettes streaming from the back of a head, jellyfish floating above polluted cities, animals caring for abandoned children. These bizarre yet familiar visions unsettle the viewer, prompting reflection on the fragile boundary between reality and fiction. For Toledano, AI represents a new artistic frontier, capable of reinventing visual memory and rewriting history. In an era where facts themselves seem negotiable, Another America offers a provocative meditation on how technology is reshaping truth, collective imagination, and the future of art.
