Georg Baselitz and the art of "sin"
#Exhibitions

After eight years Georg Baselitz returns to White Cube Bermondsey with the exhibition A Confession of My Sins. Comprised of a large body of new work produced during an intense year in the studio, the exhibition features large-scale works and a selection of drawings in which Baselitz, now 86, traces the last six and a half decades of his artistic practice. "I put my early childhood drawings of eagles, deer, stags, dogs, and so on in folders,” Baselitz notes. “Every now and then I look at them and think was this a good time, was this a bad time?” Drawing on this rich panoply of personal iconography, in several works the artist uses himself and his wife as subjects of exploration, an approach that has become central to his recent paintings. Born in 1938 in Germany, Baselitz is a highly renowned contemporary artist who has exhibited in the most important museums in the world including recently the Albertina in Vienna (2023) and The Morgan Library & Museum in New York (2022).
