The exhibition entitled Alone on the Bridge, Together on a Boat is dedicated to the Japanese artist Katsuhiko Hibino and develops through a series of site-specific installations conceived for the spaces of the Contemporary Art Gallery of Art Tower Mito. The title evokes a reflection on the human experience between isolation and sharing, suggesting that one can be alone on a bridge, but together on a boat. This double level of reading characterizes the work of the artist, known for his participatory works and for the use of simple materials such as cardboard, wood and recycled objects. Hibino began his creative journey during his university years at the Tokyo University of the Arts, gaining fame with installations made of cardboard that combined performative and graphic elements. Over time he has developed a visual language capable of engaging the public directly, transforming the exhibition space into a place of exchange, relationship and play. The exhibition focuses on the relationship between the individual, space and collectivity, in an open dialogue with the architecture of the gallery designed by Arata Isozaki. Hibino’s approach is based on the idea that art can be a shared and accessible experience, capable of generating human connections through essential forms, participation and listening.
