The Nyaman Gallery, one of the most influential galleries in Bali, is a multidisciplinary space where urban art, handicrafts, photography and design come together in harmony for a total experience in international and local art. A necessary stop for those passionate about art and curious about cultural ferment, the gallery was founded in Seminyak in 2015 by Melvine Amar, French curator, who baptised it with the Indonesian word “nyaman", which means welcoming and comfortable, in name of the inclusive philosophy and vital rhythm and aesthetic represented by the artists hosted there. The multi-floored space has a heterogenous mix of materials and languages with a collection of emerging Indonesian and foreign talent, as well as famed international artists who live in Bali and its creations range from traditional to more contemporary art, without ever overlooking its relationship with the surrounding territory. Thus, the faces of Balinese beauty and its customs take unusual forms through varying mediums or even shots through the lens of a photographer while portraits on canvas in street art style are flanked by dreamlike visions or enormous collages, jewellery, masks or lamps, uniques objects born from Indonesian know-how and culture.
Traditional shadow play, guided by a lively puppeteer, introduces the public to local folklore.
