Borrowed Light marks the first solo exhibition in an Italian institution by Indian artist Rohini Devasher. Winner of the 2024 Artist of the Year award, Devasher is a rare figure: a visual artist and amateur astronomer, she weaves together diverse languages and fields of knowledge in a compelling exploration of the relationships between the sky, time, and humanity. Curated by Britta Färber, the exhibition offers an immersive experience that contemplates how light - both physical and metaphorical - can act as a bridge across eras, cultures, and forms of knowledge. Video installations, works on paper and copper plates, and a site-specific wall mural transform the gallery into a celestial map where observation and imagination converge. The title, drawn from an architectural term describing light reflected from an adjacent space, becomes a metaphor for indirect knowledge and situated perspectives: every gaze at the sky is filtered through culture, myth, and geography. Borrowed Light is a poetic invitation to view the cosmos as a shared space, where knowledge travels like starlight across time and distance.
