Born in 1990 in Lengshuijiang and now based in Paris, Guangli Liu belongs to a generation of artists investigating the relationship between images, technology, and the construction of reality. After studying at Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains, Liu developed a multidisciplinary practice that moves across video, installation, documentary, and painting.
At the core of his research is the way our perception of the present is mediated by pre-existing systems of representation -  languages, social conventions, and media formats that filter information even before it reaches us. In his work, history and contemporary events intertwine, questioning the supposed objectivity of images and the structures that produce them. Liu’s works have been presented in major international institutions, from the Centre Pompidou in Paris to the Power Station of Art in Shanghai. His practice has also received recognition through awards such as the Golden Nica at Ars Electronica and the Golden Key at Kassel Dokfest, confirming the relevance of his research within the contemporary art landscape.
