Kong Lingnan, a Young Artist Ready for the Next Beijing Bienniale
#BulgariStories

Installations on canvas created with coloured strings of neon lights are the leitmotif which allowed Kong Lingnan - young artist born in the province of Northeast Jilin in 1983 - to quickly achieve popularity and success, becoming one of the most high-profile talents of the Chinese art scene. However, over the years, Kong undertook a more “inward” path, given to introspection and meditative tones. Starting in 2020, the intitial languarge connected to the immediacy of design works, gave way to a more intimist and measured sort of expression where landscapes, views, human traces and natural elements are depicted by the artist, exalting the spirit of union between man and nature, between micro- and macrocosm. This transformation brought the artist to shift focus from appearances to essences. Another source of inspiration was the experience of studying in London, where the artist attended the prestigious Chelsea College of Art and Design. Cosmic landscapes, the result of alchemies connecting the internal and external spheres, faint colours and captivating lines characterise the most recent works of Kong Lingnan. An invitation to lose yourself to find yourself.
