Henri Matisse, Marguerite with the Black Cat, 1910, Paris, Centre Pompidou Musée national d'art moderne / Centre de création industrielle

A major exhibition dedicated to Henri Matisse (1869 - 1954), one of the greatest artists of the Twentieth Century, is coming to Paris at the Museum of Modern Art. Over 110 works brought together to tell the story of the dual relationship, as father and artist, between Matisse and his eldest daughter Marguerite Duthuit-Matisse. The exhibition features drawings and paintings from American, Swiss and Japanese collections, exhibited in France for the first time, which, together with photographs, archive documents and works painted by Marguerite herself, complete the evocation of this personality little known to the general public. Organized chronologically, the exhibition bears witness to the strength of the bond that united the artist and his daughter and allows us to understand the immense trust and respect they had for each other. The artist seemed to see in Marguerite a sort of mirror of himself, as if, by depicting her, he was finally achieving that "almost complete identification between the painter and his model" to which he aspired.
