More than twenty years after the worldwide success of Fallen, Evanescence return to Japan for two concerts in Tokyo. On 1 and 2 December 2026, the band led by Amy Lee will perform at SGC Hall Ariake for two Tokyo dates on the tour supporting Sanctuary, their sixth studio album, released last June. Ave Mujica will open both shows. Formed in Arkansas in the second half of the 1990s around Amy Lee and Ben Moody, Evanescence achieved international success in 2003 with Fallen. Driven by singles such as Bring Me to Life and My Immortal, the album combined rock and metal with piano, orchestral arrangements and electronic elements. Bring Me to Life won the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2004, while the band received the award for Best New Artist. Since then, singer, pianist and principal songwriter Amy Lee has remained the creative centre of the group through numerous line-up changes. The Tokyo concerts come just a few months after the release of Sanctuary, issued on 5 June 2026, five years after The Bitter Truth. Produced across several sessions by Zakk Cervini and Jordan Fish, as well as Nick Raskulinecz, the album features twelve tracks and continues the band’s exploration of distorted guitars, electronics and the melodic dimension associated with Lee’s voice and piano. Among the tracks released ahead of the album was Afterlife, which reached number one on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, followed in April by Who Will You Follow. Sanctuary also marks a new phase in the history of a band that has built its identity on the coexistence of different musical languages. Amy Lee’s piano playing and classical training have always existed alongside the weight of the guitars and a songwriting style that moves between intimate passages and expansive soundscapes, a combination already evident on Fallen and later developed on albums such as The Open Door and The Bitter Truth.
